The following is a list of Visual Novels that, as the title of this post says, are free and can be obtained over the internet.
I have not played any of these aside from two of them, though some of them are supposed to be decent to amazing. I’ll distinguish which I’ve played and which are supposed to be of what caliber that I haven’t played. If there’s just a picture/link and nothing else, then it means I haven’t heard much about it and haven’t played it.
Be warned, some of these visual novels have mature content!

Nice list. Thanks for the info.
Thanks! 😀
You’re welcome, Manifest. Glad this could help you. I gathered all this for myself, but then thought that others might want it too. 😉

This is an excellent list of underground Visual Novels.
Thanks! 😀
Katawa Shoujo is awesome. Puts many visual novels that cost money to shame.
It does? That’s nice to know. I own a lot of paid VN’s, but have only beaten the one I just did a review for called “If My Heart Had Wings”. My most treasured VN that I own is ‘Steins;Gate’. I’m saving that one for a special occasion. That’s when I’ll play it for the first time.
I loved the Steins;Gate anime so I wouldn’t mind reading the visual novel one of these days. I won a copy of If My Heart Had Wings in a caption competition, but I have yet to play it.
You should try it out then. ‘If My Heart Had Wings’ I mean. Read my review and/or some others and see if its something worth your time.
Same here. I didn’t know it was based off a visual novel until recently (6 months or so ago). As soon as I found that out, I went and bought a copy – almost immediately. XD
